Moor Gait lived up to her pedigree – if not her massive odds – by leaving punters gasping when a winner of the Group 3 $175,000 SA Fillies Classic at Morphettville at odds as high as $216.

The Fiorente filly started at $101 officially but TAB punters in NSW shunned her, allowing her to pay $216.30 for the win while she paid $195.50 in Victoria.

Trainer Andrew Noblet was at Flemington on Saturday instead of Morphettville, but the victory was well received – and not all that surprising as it turns out.

"She goes pretty good," Noblet explained of the filly who had one win in nine starts before Saturday.

"She shouldn’t have been those odds.

"That’s the race we wanted to run in all along. It was going to be borderline whether we got a run – and we ended up first emergency and got in late.

"We just backed her pedigree. Her mother (L’inquisitor) won two races at Morphettville over that distance (2500m) and 2200 metres I think and she is by Fiorente.

"If you looked at her last run, she was four or five deep the whole way around Ballarat but still stuck on alright.

"We didn’t give her another run and took the punt on her getting a run and he (Daniel Stackhouse) rode her perfectly to allow her staying pedigree to come through in the end."

Noblet said he had never trained a horse to win at such big odds and conceded he did have a bet on Moor Gait.

"Just something small," he said.
